Journey Four / Chapter 23

Utah III. - Across The Desert

November 2021

Crossing the legendary Utah desert through Valley Of The Gods, Monument Valley, Natural Arches National Monument an Fry Canyon to Hanksville.

After visiting first two of the famous Utah's national parks, we head down south to the Valley Of The Gods, another grand awe-inspiring field of majestic rock formations. And after a brief sleep in a camp not far from Mexican Hat, we get up early at 4am to witness the sunrise over one of the astonishing places in this desert: The Monument Valley located just on the edge of Navajo Tribal Park of Navajo Nation.

After a brunch just under the eponymous Mexican Hat we head up the dangerous cliff road known as the Moki Dugway up on the mesa, and continue towards the Natural Arches National Monument - a smaller park but still breathtaking. And then we head out through Fry Canyon to Hite where we cross the Colorado River (another awe-inspiring landscape) and finally through Hanksville (the only civilisation in half a day) to the gates of Capitol Reef National Park
